Abstract: Molecularly imprinted polymers are materials with notable properties, the main being an extremely high selectivity to imprinted molecules. Due to the memory effect introduced into the polymer matrix during the preparation process, these materials have a strong affi nity toward target analyte and could be successfully used for selective solid phase extractions. Furthermore, molecularly imprinted polymers find numerous applications in analyses of foods, drinks, environmental and biological samples as sorbents for solid phase microextraction, matrix solid phase dispersion, stir-bar extraction as well as stationary phases in liquid chromatography.

Abstract: Information on Piagoras’2015 prizes for science in the field of chemistry for the period 2013−2014 awarded by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science on 18th June 2015 in Sofia is presented. Brief biographical data and photographs of awardees are given. They are Associate Professor Dr. Georgi Yordanov, affiliated at the Chair of General and Inorganic Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, as a successful young researcher on nanomaterials as carriers in biomedical nanotechnologies and Associate Professor Dr. Neli Koseva, Institute of Polymers at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences , as a successful coordinator of international project in the field of polymer chemistry
