Abstract: A survey is presented of electron magnetic resonance activities in Bulgaria during the last 55 years. The report
includes construction of the fi rst Bulgarian electron paramagnetic resonance spectrometers, information on the Bulgarian research laboratories and investigations in the field, foundation of a national EPR laboratory and scope of research, teaching and education, organisation of local and international scientific events as well as foundation and actions of the Bulgarian EPR Society.

Abstract: Information on Pitagoras 2016 prizes for chemical science and related scientific fields for the period 2013–2015 awarded by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science on 19th May 2016 in Sofia is presented. Brief biographical data and photographs of the winners are given. Academician Peter Kralchevsky, PhD, DSc, Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia and Full Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, has been awarded for his overall contribution to the advancement of science. Dr. Antoniya Toncheva, PhD, affiliated at the Laboratory of Bioactive Polymers, Institute of Polymers at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, http://www.polymer.bas.bg, has been bestowed as a successful young researcher for developing novel micro- and nanofibre polymer materials applied to medicine and pharmacy. Two other researchers were also awarded: Professor Vladimir B. Bojinov, PhD, DSc, Head of the Department of Organic Synthesis and Fuels at the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy in Sofia, http://www. dl.uctm.edu, as a recognized scientist in the field of natural and engineering sciences and for his research on functional fluorescence compounds and possibilities of molecules to perform binary logical operations, and Professor Irini Doytchinova, PhD, DSc, from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University of Sofia, http://www.ddg-pharmfac.net, as a recognized scientist in the field of health and medical sciences.
