Miniaturization and nanoengineering: a new approach
Abstract: Semantic intelligence, which naturally arises from the concept of boundedness, the latter recently proposed by this author, turns out to be a promising candidate for providing a new strategy to explore unknown events and events where the information is uncertain or incomplete. This is due to its major property, namely, that is ability to autonomous creation and comprehension of information. The completion of this goal goes through a novel approach to nanoengineering. Another exclusive proof for boundedness provides a specifi c lower bound to each nanodevice below which it does not operate steadily. Yet, this setback turns rather advantageous because the ban over deep miniaturization opens the door to the world of novel materials. Another route to avoid this ban is based on an essential result for boundedness that structure-functionality relation is non-recursive. This provides that the best devices possessing semantic intelligence are not necessarily the fastest and/or the smallest. Then, the parameters of any concrete circuit possessing semantic intelligence are matter of resolution between the bounds to the deep miniaturization and the use of new materials according to each concrete task.

Pythagoras’ 2017 prizes for science for three Bulgarian chemists
Abstract: Information on Pythagoras’ 2017 prizes for science in the field of chemistry for the period 2014–2016 awarded by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science on 18th May 2017 at St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia is presented. Brief biographical data, outline of scientific contributions during the period 2014–2016, and photographs of awardees are given. Three Bulgarian scientists in the field of chemistry were awarded in 2017. The Prize for contributions in natural and engineering sciences was shared by Professor Todor Dudev, DSc, Department of Pharmaceutical and Applied Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, Sofia University, and Professor Ivo Grabchev, DSc, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physiology and Pathophysiology, Faculty of Medicine, Sofia University. Dr. Alexandar Dolashki, Dipl.-Ing., Ph.D., president of ALEX 1977 Ltd. Company and Chief Assistant Professor at Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was awarded for a company of most R&D investments.

Zdravko Stoynov – the scientist who created new horizons (16.05.1936–9.09.2017)
Abstract: Being an original and non-standard personality with the spirit of a celebrity Zdravko Stoynov turned all he touched in a masterpiece. His innovative thinking which made him one of the world leaders in Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy chiselled away at the scientifi c taboos and created new research horizons. Zdravko Stoynov left us an abundant heritage – his spirit, his interminable capacity for wonder, his developments, and inventions – all that he has taught us and brought us up. It has no dimensions but rather carries a unique value.
